Laminating Supplies

Having the proper laminating equipment and laminating supplies is essential for anyone who is interested in preserving items with a protective plastic coating.  Whether using roll, cold, or pouch laminators, the appropriate supplies must be used in order for them to operate properly and efficiently.  All laminators do not use the same equipment, so it’s important to be familiar with laminators and the supplies needed for them to function.

Many people are familiar with the plastic byproduct of roll laminators because many school teachers regularly use laminated projects and materials in the classroom.  Others may have seen roll laminators at their local copy center.  The lamination supplies needed to operate these roll laminators usually include two rolls of heat-sensitive plastic film that work together to enclose the object being covered.  Depending on the type of lamination equipment, standard or low temperature film will be used. Not only will the film vary because of the temperature setting needed to melt it, the length, width and finish of the film may differ, too.  Some laminating film supplies include clear, matte, and uv film.

Cold laminators, which do not use heat and may not use electricity, rely on different laminator supplies than the roll laminators.  Cold laminating supplies may consist of film rolls or a cartridge. The pressure-sensitive film used with cold laminators has a sticky side, which is pressed directly onto the object’s surface.  Since some materials that need lamination may be damaged by using heat on them, cold laminators are used.

Laminating pouches, which are sealed on one side and have an opening on the other side,   work with pouch laminators.  The item to be laminated is dropped into the pouch through the opening. Then the pouch is placed through the pouch laminator, which heats and seals the pouch.   A carrier, which guides the pouch through the laminator, may be needed with some pouch laminators.   The carrier helps protect the equipment from residual adhesive.

Laminating pouches are available in different sizes and thickness.  Standard pouches can be as small as a business card or large enough to cover a poster. They can be customized, too.  Depending on a person’s laminating needs, pouch film can be colored, clear, matte, pressure-sensitive, and uv/ul.  When looking for quality pouch supplies, many people turn to GBC laminating supplies.  Their pouches include heatseal and selfseal, and they can be purchased in clear, ultra clear, and crystal clear.  Pouch laminating supplies will vary according to the manufacturer and type of machine being used.

Laminating equipment and supplies make preserving and protecting important documents, photographs, projects, posters, and other items easier.  Whether purchasing a laminator for businesses or personal use, people must be aware of the supplies needed to get optimal satisfaction from their machine.  Prior to purchasing a laminating machine, a person should do some research to be knowledgeable of the type of laminate supplies that will be needed to operate it, since laminators’ capabilities and supplies vary.  Even after having purchased a laminator, reading through the manual to familiarize oneself with the laminating supplies it needs will be beneficial.
