Laminating Films

Whether an ID badge, a membership card, a menu, a quick reference guide, or a poster, laminating films preserve and protect these items and many others like them.  Through the use of a laminating film that is sealed around the perimeter, water and other liquids are practically impenetrable.  Creating this permanent protection for any important card or document is relatively easy and the process can often be performed with a minimum of equipment and materials.

The earliest and still a common method of preserving a important document is through the use of a thermal laminating film.  This entails supplying a film laminating machine with a laminating film roll.  By sandwiching the document in between two layers of lamination film, the document is then subjected to a heat source.  This elevates the temperature of the two laminate films sufficiently to fuse them together and seal whatever has been placed in between.  Large poster sheets, such as world atlases or periodic tables, are ideal candidates for this type of lamination process because the lamination film is available in rolls of large sizes that are sure to accommodate these dimensions.  In order to invest in all of this equipment, there should be a steady or frequent volume of material that needs lamination film applied.  Otherwise, it is best to visit an office supply store or other office services business with film laminating machines.  Although the cost may be higher as a result of the convenience, the savings from not purchasing equipment could be significant if only laminating a just a few items.

For small batches of lamination or other cases where the cost of a thermal lamination machine is simply not justifiable, there is cold lamination film.  Available at many office supply stores, the cold laminating film supplied in most packages are pre-made to a specific size that is suitable for a wide variety of a certain ID badge of document.  After inserting the material to be protected, the final seal is made simply by pinching together both lamination films and pressing firmly.  The adhesive on both lamination films will bond together the two films to provide a rigid and sturdy ID badge, information card, or other item of importance.  This type of lamination film product is appropriate for practically any organization that needs to quickly laminate ID badges or certification cards without purchasing thermal lamination equipment.

Whether the item is large or small there is a laminating film to fit the purpose.  Just as there is a variety of items to laminate, so is there a variety of laminating films.  The thermal lamination films will protect items that will need to maintain some flimsiness, while lamination film pouches provide rigid and rugged protection.  Before making any purchases, it is best to determine the size of what is being laminated, how many items are to receive lamination film, and what type of protection is required.  With this information at hand, a more educated decision may be made regarding which laminating films to purchase.
