Hot roll lamination is a process where the rollers are heated to a certain degree to melt glue that is then applied to the lamination film. The most prominent use of this type of roll laminator is also to protect paper documents, but it is critical, before investing in an expensive roll laminator, to determine if the intended purpose is compatible with being exposed to heat.  As mentioned, several types of documents are adverse to heat, so this type of laminating machine would be a waste of money in those cases. The process of heating the glue prior to laminating is the reason why a hot roll laminator is so much faster that its cold roll counterpart. Hot roll lamination also costs less than using cold roll lamination because the laminates and adhesives used are less-expensive to manufacture for heated roll lamination machines.

There are many choices available for lamination depending on what the process is being used for. Both cold roll and hot roll lamination machines have very specific applications, plus inherent advantages and disadvantages. When considering the purchase of a roll laminator, be sure to perform thorough research and consult with experts – it is very easy to make a costly mistake.
